Holding a valid driver’s licence is essential for many people in the Gympie region – for work, daily life, and independence. In Queensland, certain drivers are required by law to undergo a medical assessment to confirm their fitness to drive safely. At Gympie Day and Evening Clinic, our GPs conduct driver’s licence medical assessments for both private and commercial vehicle drivers, completed in accordance with the national Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive (AFTD) standards and Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requirements.
Our GPs approach driver’s licence medicals with care and impartiality – the goal is to assess your fitness to drive safely and to help you remain on the road for as long as it is safe to do so, with appropriate conditions applied where necessary. Driver’s licence medical assessments are privately billed and are not covered by Medicare. Please call 07 2140 4888 before booking to confirm the requirements of your specific assessment and the current fee schedule.
Who needs a medical:
– Commercial and heavy vehicle licence holders – required when applying for or renewing a commercial driver authorisation in Queensland

Austroads AFTD Standard Assessments
All driver’s licence medical assessments at our clinic are conducted in accordance with the national Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive standards, ensuring your assessment meets the legal requirements for Queensland Transport and Main Roads.
Both Private and Commercial Assessments
We complete medical assessments for private vehicle drivers with medical conditions or age-related requirements, as well as commercial and heavy vehicle drivers requiring certification for their licence class.
Queensland TMR Forms Completed On-Site
Our GPs complete the required Queensland Transport and Main Roads medical certificate forms (including F3712 and F3195 as applicable) at your appointment, so you leave with the documentation you need.
On-Site Testing Available
Vision testing and other assessments required as part of your driver’s medical can be conducted at our clinic. Where specialist testing is required – such as audiometry or sleep study – your GP will arrange the appropriate referral.
Respectful, Patient-Centred Approach
We understand that a driver’s licence medical can feel daunting, particularly for older drivers or those managing chronic health conditions. Our GPs conduct assessments with sensitivity and respect, explaining findings clearly and supporting you to remain safely on the road wherever possible.
