MyMedicare is a free, voluntary program from the Australian Government that links you with your usual general practice. Once you register with Gympie Day and Evening Clinic, your GP team becomes your official home practice in Medicare’s records. That can give you access to longer telehealth appointments and more joined-up care if you have an ongoing condition.
What is MyMedicare?
MyMedicare started in October 2023. It lets you formally register with one general practice, and you can choose a preferred GP there. Registering does not change your Medicare card or your other Medicare benefits. It simply records which clinic knows your health history best.
You can still see other doctors. If you are travelling, or need care when we are closed, you can visit any GP or hospital as usual.
Who can register?
You can register with MyMedicare if you:
- have a Medicare card or a DVA Veteran Card
- have had at least two face-to-face visits with the same practice in the past 24 months
Some people do not need the two visits, for example babies under two, people experiencing homelessness, and some other groups. Ask reception if you are unsure.
What are the benefits of registering?
Longer telehealth appointments. When you are registered with us, you can have longer phone consultations with your registered practice that are covered by Medicare. Read more about our telehealth appointments.
Better care for ongoing conditions. If you have a condition such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease or arthritis, your care plan is managed by the practice you are registered with. That keeps your records, tests and follow-ups in one place. See how our GPs help with chronic disease management.
Continuity of care. Seeing the same clinic over time means your GP knows your history, your medicines and your test results. Research on general practice shows that seeing a familiar doctor is linked with better health outcomes and fewer hospital visits.
No cost to register. MyMedicare registration is free.
How to register with Gympie Day and Evening Clinic
There are three ways to register:
- Online through myGov. Sign in to your Medicare online account, go to MyMedicare, and choose Gympie Day and Evening Clinic as your practice.
- With the Medicare app. Open the Express Plus Medicare app, select MyMedicare, and follow the steps.
- At the clinic. Ask reception for a registration form at your next visit.
After you apply, our clinic confirms the registration. You can then see it in your Medicare online account.
If you are new to the clinic, read our new patient information and book your first visits. After two face-to-face appointments, you can register.
