Implanon Insertion

Implanon Insertion in Gympie – Reliable Long-Term Contraception

At Gympie Day & Evening Clinic, we provide expert Implanon insertion, a trusted, long-acting contraceptive solution for women seeking effective, hassle-free birth control. Since launching in 2023, our clinic has been dedicated to safe, personalized care for the Gympie community.

What Is Implanon & How It Works

Implanon is a small, flexible rod inserted just beneath the skin of your upper arm. It releases a steady dose of the progestin hormone (etonogestrel), which prevents ovulation, thickens cervical mucus, and thins the uterine lining to effectively prevent pregnancy.

Exceptionally Effective & Convenient

  • Provides protection for up to three years, with some data supporting effectiveness through five years.

  • More than 99% effective, making it one of the most reliable contraceptive options available.

  • Low-maintenance no daily pills or interruptions to intimacy.

Safe, Quick, and Professional Procedure

  • Performed by our experienced women’s health GP, Dr Kinza Ijaz, trained in both insertion and removal of Implanon and Mirena devices.

  • Procedure takes just a few minutes:

    1. Local anesthetic is applied to numb the inside of your upper (non-dominant) arm.

    2. The implant is placed under the skin via a small applicator.

    3. A pressure bandage may be applied, followed by a small adhesive bandage

  • Patients may feel mild tenderness or bruising afterward; overall recovery is quick.

Safe for Most, But Not All

Implanon suits a broad spectrum of individuals, including those who smoke, have diabetes, or elevated cholesterol.
However, it’s not suitable for those who:

    • Are pregnant

    • Have active or recent (within 5 years) breast cancer

    • Have unexplained vaginal bleeding or serious liver disease

    • Take certain medications that affect implant efficacy.
